Gifted Scarecrow Project

Our Fall Project will be for each gifted student to create a one of a kind scarecrow. Here are the categories that you can choose from:

1. Funniest

2. Scariest

3. Most Original

4. Best Traditional

5. Famous People

6. Cartoon Characters/Super Heroes

Information and rules:

  • Scarecrows must be constructed to withstand weather conditions.
  • No perishable goods (squash, pumpkins, etc.) may be used in the construction of your scarecrow.
  • Stuffing can be anything, but newspaper and water soluble peanuts will not work. Plastic bags hold up best.
  • Facial expression is the first thing a viewer will notice. The face can be sad, cheerful, beautiful, ugly or angry. It could be a famous person or cartoon character.
  • Hair can be made from a variety of materials including yarn, pipe cleaners, shredded plastic, beads, moss, rope, raffia, mop head or torn strips of fabric.
  • Accessories make the difference! Add hats, gloves, shoes, scarf, etc.
  • Some suggestions for the head are old milk jugs, flower pots, wood, basketballs, plastic pumpkins, pillowcases or burlap.
  • Scarecrow should be FREE STANDING, supported by a prop or built around a frame.

This project meets the creativity I.E.P goal which consists of flexibility, originality, elaboration and creative writing.

Due date: Friday, September 16, 2011
